PAUSE FOR THOUGHT - FREEDOM OF (EVEN REVOLTING) SPEECH - BY TERRI DELCAMPO

http://terridelcampo.blogspot.com/2016/10/freedom-of-even-revolting-speech.html
Terri DelCampo gives her opinions about free speech. Even with issues and people she feels strongly about, she does not think people should have to limit what they have to say. These rights are guaranteed in the Constitution.

As much as I might disagree with people and some of the stupid, revolting things they have to say, they have the right to say them. Of course, it's a double edged sword. I don't respect the people who are truly disgusting, and I have every right to attack them in print. Sometimes, it's not worth the effort. Things like this can be a huge time suck with opinionated people who don't care to approach things from a humanistic point of view.

A case of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Read Terri's post and see if you agree.

ARE THERE REALLY REASONS FOR THE BAD STUFF? - BY TERRI DELCAMPO

http://disabilitychallengeswithterridelcampo.blogspot.com/2016/01/are-there-really-reasons-for-bad-stuff.html
Terri DelCampo has added another great post to her Disability Challenges with Terri DelCampo website http://disabilitychallengeswithterridelcampo.blogspot.com/. This time she discusses ARE THERE REALLY REASONS FOR THE BAD STUFF? One thing I admire about Terri is the fact she refuses to let handicaps get in her way. When there is something she wants to do, she does it. And, it's not always easy.

Read her post above and others she has written there. She provides links to her other websites as well. Terri writes in many genres. She is best known for her horror tales, but she has much more to grab your attention.

Happy reading.

THESAURUS: DEVIL BOOK - YEA OR NAY? BY TERRI DELCAMPO

http://www.writenowwithterridelcampo.blogspot.com/2016/02/thesaurus-devil-book-yea-or-nay.html
Tips on thesaurus use from Terri DelCampo on her Write Now with Terri DelCampo blog:

"As with chocolate brownies, moderation and discipline is the key when using a thesaurus.  I know there are writers giving tips everywhere saying that the thesaurus should never be cracked, but I disagree.

First, you can learn a lot from a thesaurus on the expand-your-vocabulary horizon.  However, the thesaurus should be an editing tool more than a writing tool.  Write the story using words you absolutely know.  If there are words you use that you are not one hundred percent certain about, look up their synonyms in a thesaurus first, to give you context.  But then, look up the specific definitions for the word and its synonyms in a dictionary to be certain.  Even then, if you look up the synonym you plan to use, and the definition is the less common one, chances are it might not be correct in your story.

For example, the matriarch in my fictitious town of Owl's Nest is a witch, and I wanted to find synonyms for the word witch because it comes up in my stories a lot."
There are some useful tips that might help you out.

MARKETING 101 - A DIFFERENT KIND OF BOOK ADDITION

Most authors like increasing the number of books they have for sale. Makes total sense, does it not? Sure it does, or does it? I have eleven of my short stories and my tales within anthologies in which the rights will revert back to me. Actually, all of them already do. However, the publisher is shutting down and I have a choice to make. Do I republish them or do I do something else?

I once believed that short stories were a way to get your longer books noticed. Could be, but for a 99 cent book, you're only getting 35 cents. So what will I do? I will at some point put these stories in collections and sell them that way. I have hundreds of them. My plan is to have collections in different word counts. I will charge $2.99 and $3.99 for a lot of them. Not bad for a 20,000 to 40,000 word collection. With a decent sized free sample on Amazon, readers can still get a sampling of my writing.

As for the bigger collections, those in the 70,000 to 90,000 word range, I'll charge $6.99, or more, for them, the same as I do my novels.

So, the subtraction of eleven of my works will add to more over the long run. I'll polish them up a bit and make them better. My readers will receive value. That's what I like. I hope they will enjoy what they read.

I have many stories in anthologies with other Presses than Blazing Owl Press. They will remain where they are. They have good homes there.

Quality is always better than quantity, I believe. I have many new novels coming out as well as collections, and I want my readers to enjoy all of them.

Happy reading.

I WILL NO LONGER PURCHASE CRAP - BY TERRI DELCAMPO

http://www.writenowwithterridelcampo.blogspot.com/2016/02/i-will-no-longer-purchase-crap.html
Terri DelCampo makes some interesting points in her post I WILL NO LONGER PURCHASE CRAP on her Write Now with Terri DelCampo blog. She and I purchase quite a few books written by many authors. There are some that, quite frankly, don't live up to expectations. We both agree that the free samples on Amazon tell a prospective reader a lot about a book. If there are mistakes at the beginning of a book, then you may rest assured they will be scattered around elsewhere.

This is not a tell all piece. No books or names will be mentioned. Also, bear in mind that no one is perfect. One can find errors in books from the Big Boys as well as self-pubbed and small press books. Don't let awards throw you off, either. I have read Bram Stoker winning books that I thought were awful. Personal tastes. However, one had a forward done from an award winning author that was filled with grammatical errors.Yikes!

Go to the link above and see if you don't agree with the other comments Terri makes. Please, authors, use the tools at your disposal.
