Be warned that you don't want to piss off a Gnome. They might be short in stature, but they can get rather nasty when provoked. Olaf is one such Gnome. He has a rather intense hatred of Charles and his ilk. I offer a short teaser below. You'll have to read the entire short tale to see what kind of evil shenanigans Olaf gets into.

Happy reading!

Blaze McRob

******

A typical night for this part of Kansas. It's hot and muggy without a breath of air. Olaf stands in front of his little house in the trunk of a tree, grinning like a cat with a mouse under its paw. The heat doesn't bother him. Truth be told, he finds it much to his liking. Little people like him can tolerate what the human miscreants can't.

"Ah," he says to himself, "what a fine evening to stroll about, smoke my pipe, and perhaps wander over to the big pond these people have built and do some fishing. Yes, some Largemouth Bass would be mighty tasty."

He goes back inside his dwelling and grabs his fishing rod and tackle box. Laughing to himself, thinking about the poor confused child he stole these items from a few years back, he heads towards the pond.

"A bigger pole would not fit my hands," he says. "This is just right."

Visions of a tummy filled with pan-fried Bass put a decided bounce in his step, and he arrives at the pond in no time at all. On dark nights such as this, a surface plug teased across the surface always resulted in a few careless fish winding up in his possession. Tonight is no exception. He only keeps what he himself can eat, knowing he has no way to keep any more from spoiling in the Kansas heat.

Once, there were others like him here, but they left, preferring the weather farther to the north. Aye, and a lot less of these humans. It seemed as if they destroyed things no matter where they went. The air, land, and the very water they drank, was tainted because of them. And the worst of the lot? He lives in the huge mansion set way back in from the road.

Charles is rich, but his money comes at the expense of others. More, more, more. It is always more. Why? He has enough of everything for many lifetimes.

Olaf never understood it. Deep down inside, the festering had been growing for many years, but what could he, one single Gnome, do against him, and the rest of the evil ones waiting to take his place? He dreamed often of charging into the big house and sending Charles off to the Promised Land, or wherever folks of his ilk went to, but dreams were all they were. No more would they come true than would the actuality of Charles deciding the pipeline he wanted to build was an evil thing.

The one thing he has on his side is that people do not believe that Gnomes exist, other than the plaster ones they keep on their lawns. If they knew, they would surely shit a brick. Olaf laughs at that, thinking of all the language changes he has been subjected to hearing over the years. What stupid people!

And, if they knew that Olaf and his kind were indeed among the living, they would have less concern for them than the wolves they try to annihilate.

******

The characters and events in this book are fictitious. The book description sets it up nicely.

******

Once known for romance,

This place turns into a bloody dance;

In the tempo of disease

On an island no one leaves.

******

To add even more of a reason to check out my tale, I have included a short teaser below.

******

There is just a sliver of a moon tonight, barely enough to show the surf for what it is. Others like me stare out into the gently rippling waters, the hunger in our bellies driving us mad from the ravenous urge to seek out more prey. But one cannot eat what is not there.

Maybe . . . just maybe if I wade out into the red surf one more time there will be a morsel overlooked from before.

Others beat me to it, but it is all for naught. The blood-stained waters are barren. We saw to that earlier. Santa Catalina. The old song beats a wild staccato in my head. No, this is no longer an island of romance. Leave me alone, damn it!

But it doesn't leave me alone. Over and over again the words assault me. How can there be romance without people? There can't. This is insanity. Everything is insanity now. 4,000 residents of this island are either now dead or like me. Maybe I'd be better off dead.

The old clay and metal pipes which wore away long ago allowed human sewage to flow into the city's groundwater and eventually into Avalon Bay. Over the years the bacteria deposits grew and gained entry into the bodies of those tending the beaches. Day after day we were assaulted without even knowing it.

The fecal bacteria inside my body tear at me, changing me more and more from what once was a human to whatever it is I am now. Chunks of flesh have fallen away from me, leaving boils and pockets of pus. My hair is rapidly becoming a thing of the past, joining with my departed flesh as it becomes litter on the beach, further desecrating it.

******

Red Surf, and much more, can be found on my Patreon page. I've started with personal favorites, but I'm also working on wildlife that is on the endangered species list, in an effort to draw attention to the work we need to do to help our planet restore itself.

While creating book covers and illustrations for writing projects, I began branching out into abstract art drawings and paintings. With environmental causes close to my heart, I create the abstract drawings on recycled cardboard (i.e., cereal, pasta, cracker boxes and packaging), and call it my 'Trash to Art' collection. I'm offering art inspired by my novels, poetry, articles, and Owl's Eye View dark fiction magazine, including character sketches, illustrations, and book cover art. I've done artwork for Blaze McRob's 'Paranormal Posse' stories on Patreon, and hope to include some of those here as well. There's also an illustrated memoir project looming in my near future, and the art will no doubt migrate to this venue. I got comfortable with colored pencil but am beginning to dabble in watercolor and acrylic. I love the wildlife in my yard and it's flowing into my art. I will upload work here at least weekly, so please follow me and check for new releases here on fineartamerica.com often.

******

Terri DelCampo has hundreds of pieces of art on Fine Art America. How's a gumshoe supposed to sleep in the midst of this? Yeah, right: as if I have a choice.

My former flat belongs to some highfalutin dame now. All my belongings were confiscated and sold for non-payment of that little necessity needing to be paid, but one I wasn't able to chalk up the scratch for: rent.

Okay! Times were tough. The number of wives wanting their cheating husbands tailed had dwindled to nothing. What, like the scorned bimbos didn't need what I could offer? Pictures, times, dates: everything there for the black-robed ones to drool over as they decided how much the poor faithful ball and chains would get.

So I drowned a few sorrows with hooch I couldn't afford and dames I should have stayed away from. You know the ones. They cozy up to you in a dive they shouldn't be in, sitting on a stool next to your sorrowful butt, waiting for you to light their smokes, buy their drinks, and everything else that makes you think that maybe you still have something left to offer. Next thing you know, you're in their apartment, sharing a lot more than booze and smokes.

Sure, it feels good. It always feels good, but in the morning when you get up to leave and look at the pictures in their gilded frames, you realize you're no better than the cheating studs who think they can tap whatever they want and still keep wifey happy. Turns out: you're the one keeping her happy, playing the slap and tickle game, being used like the dog you are.

The smoke from my Chesterfield rises towards the ceiling, catching the glow of the streets below and dancing about in the changing air currents caused by the drafty windows. The office lights are off, but it doesn't matter, does it? Light from below and the ever-changing pulsing staccato from the sign on the roof a block away that can't decide if it wants to light up the sky or shoot its presence down into hell are what keep the darkness out.

I reach into my top right desk drawer and grab a bottle of Scotch. Okay, it's not the good stuff, but it's not bad straight up. Hmm. Maybe that's what kind of dog I am: a Scottish Hellhound, straight from off the moors, chasing innocent broads around. Yeah, right! There are no innocent broads. I love how Terri keeps the reader more involved in the story with her styling of warnings throughout the tale, alerting the protagonists about things to do and not to do as the story progresses. She pulls this off well. Naturally, as I read the story, I was on the lookout for more clues to what was inevitable, but which actually wasn't. This brought about a paradox of facts and solutions to every twist and turn. Nothing is cast in stone in this story. This is a most intriguing tale.

******

BLAZING OWL SHORT HORROR BY TERRI DELCAMPO offers up quick ooky fixes that you can squeeze into your day – or night – whenever you have a few minutes to read. I have a picture above showing a caption of my one and only tier on Patreon. I priced this at $3.00 per month so that people who love the horror genre can get a lot of bang for their buck.

When I started out on Patreon I wrote:

"I’m a rather diverse writer. Some of my fans refer to me as being the King of Revenge Horror. Others know me for my action stories. Both are right. Add in many other strange quirks and traits and you’ll find a writer who is not bound by any constraints. Horror has always been my first love. At the age of nine, I had already consumed everything written by the great Edgar Allan Poe. So naturally, I will fill my Patreon page with many short stories of the dark, serial fiction novels, flash fiction, Father Blaze Nursery Rhymes, zombie fairy tales, horror poetry, science fiction, and more. There will be untold hours of escapism found in my eclectic tales.

There will be no non-fiction editorials on my page. I would be just another voice crying out in the wilderness. I want none of that. I will deal with whatever issues attack my gray matter the way I know best: using my story people to handle the evil running around on this spinning rock of ours from deep within my soul. My system. It works for me.

Every month, I will have at least a mix of thirty stories, novel chapters, or my other fiction. Everything I post here will not be available to read anywhere else. This place is for my loyal fans and patrons. All this for only $3.00 a month.

All my writings will remain exclusive to Patreon for at least three months after their posting. After that time period, I might make them available for sale elsewhere. However, I will not remove any of my tales from Patreon. My Patrons will still be able to read everything here. And, believe me, that's a lot of reading."

******

Since writing the above, I have added a serialized non-fiction book about running which I'm still adding to, some fantasy, and some totally outrageous novels. So far I have twelve completed novels on Patreon, of which six are exclusive there. I also have one completed novella, four completed novelettes, and hundreds of short stories. I'm also working on seven more novels, novellas, and novelettes.

Thank you for your time. I hope you'll visit my Patreon page and like what you see. My posts will be coming fast and furious! Come along for the ride. You'll find a welcome home here.

Blaze McRob
Blaze McRobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15593633013555705302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4527027449764294729.post-80433779930529028082023-10-10T06:33:00.002-07:002023-10-10T06:33:22.493-07:00JOININGS - BY TERRI DELCAMPO

https://www.amazon.com/Blazing-Owl-Short-Horror-Joinings-ebook/dp/B08NZ1F19Y/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=terri+delcampo&qid=1606395647&s=books&sr=1-2

Joinings is one of Terri DelCampo's latest short horror stories. His second wife was a shrew, so proud and haughty that within a short time he realized his mistake, but the deed was done. Worse than that, she brought into his fine house two daughters who were just like her.

Ah, but his own daughter, a lovely lass, as beautiful on the inside as the outside, was made to feel inferior by the stepmother and her two beautiful but persnickety daughters. The new mistress of the mansion saw fit to have her do all the work that a scullery maid would normally do, while her daughters had not to lift a finger to help around the house. They gave her the name Cinderella because when her work was done, she had to sit amongst the ashes.

But Cinderella did not tell her father what was happening because she realized he was being controlled by his domineering wife and did not wish to cause him any more hardship.

And it came to be that the King’s son gave a series of balls to which the finest in the kingdom would come. There was a longing in his heart to find a proper woman that he might come to love, for even though royal blood flowed through his veins, he was lonely and desperately wanted a love to call his own.

So, it was that her stepsisters should be invited to the biggest ball of all and had Cinderella, who was a Master of Fine taste, assist them in preparing their clothes and hair for the grand event. Even though the two bickered amongst themselves constantly, Cinderella managed to bedeck them in the finest clothing and coiffures imaginable, and they soon left in their carriage, but not before teasing their stepsister that she was not going to the ball.

The pain of doing everything in her power to make her stepsisters look so grand while she had to remain home in her dusty enclave caused her to break down and cry as she was sitting on the edge of the hearth.

“And what might be wrong, my sweet lass?”

Cinderella stared into the face of a short, disheveled woman with raggedy wings. Her face was covered with boils and peeling flesh. Truth be told, she appeared to be on death’s door, but in spite of it all, her disposition was cheery.

“And who . . . and who might you be?” Cinderella asked, shocked at the very presence of this woman.

The woman laughed. “Why, I am your Fairy Godmother.”

“But you look almost like you are dead.”

“Ah, my dear, I am dead, but I am not dead.”

******

Happy reading, my friends!

Blaze McRob
Blaze McRobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15593633013555705302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4527027449764294729.post-16144856928190365812023-09-24T16:51:00.004-07:002023-09-24T16:55:28.676-07:00CHILLS - BY TERRI DELCAMPO

https://www.amazon.com/Chills-Terri-DelCampo-ebook/dp/B00OYUM7SA/ref=sr_1_25?dchild=1&keywords=terri+delcampo&qid=1606880426&s=books&sr=1-25

Terri DelCampo has some great holiday horror for your ooky palate. Chills has eight stories that will show you a different side of the holiday season. I use a bare-knuckled approach all the way through it. From the very beginning, the tone of the novel is set.

This novel is exclusive to my Patreon page. You'll find a welcome home there.

Here is a short snippet from the first chapter:

******

I look across the vast room and see him sitting there. Alone. Staring out into space as if he's the only one here. But he's not alone. There are at least 200 boys in this dining area. Within himself, he's the only one present. He's lost there, still unaware of what's going on, why he's in this place, what lead him here. Two years old and James is totally confused.

Greg is taking it better than James. He's acclimating himself to what's around him. Blending in. As much as one can, considering the circumstances. This room of silence seems to fit him. How the people running this joint keep it this quiet is beyond me. Then again, maybe not so. They rule with an iron fist here. We play by their rules, or there are consequences.

Me? I'm just pissed. That's the best way to describe how I'm feeling.

Where’s Betty? Is she in the girls’ building? Maybe she’s with mom and dad, wherever they are. She’s just a baby, way too young to be here.

******

The day I arrived here was total confusion. I was walking up the outdoor stairs to our little apartment in Hackensack, having just walked there from school, and they were waiting for me on the landing. Two old women and a big guy. I was confused and started running back down the stairs, but the guy was a lot faster than me and had his hands on my shirt collar before I made it a few steps down.

“You’re coming with us,” he said.

"What’s going on?” I asked.

“You’ll find out later.”

“Let me get some clothes, at least.”

He laughed. “You won’t get anything out of there, kid. It’s been cleaned out. Nobody, or thing, is in there.

No answers to my questions. This was to be the start of that. I would be in a continual state of darkness as to what was going on around me. It was up to me to figure things out.

******

Happy reading, my friends!

Blaze McRob

******

The characters and events in this book are fictitious. I have a pair of night goggles I’ve been playing around with sitting on the table next to the bed.

I put them on and am amazed at how well they work. Too bad I didn’t have these when I was in ‘Nam. Night blindness might be a much lesser curse than a lot of other things, but when you’re in the midst of battle it sure is nice to be able to see your enemy.

The night goggles are one of many new toys my wife and I have been experimenting with. Even though the middle of the road candidate won the election this year, I know hot beds of fascism will rear their ugly heads. Shit, we’re already living in a police state. Why people deny it makes no sense to me. Liberty after liberty is vanishing in the country. Terri - my wife - and I are ready for it. We have weapons, shooting range expertise, and more to combat it if it comes. Yes, we’re only two people, but, if the shit hits the fan, we will be prepared. At the worst, we won’t go out without a battle.

******

Happy reading, my friends.

Blaze McRob

******

The characters and events in this book are fictitious. This is a short story that is actually four short stories wrapped into one. The book cover, skillfully done by Terri DelCampo, explains the premise of the book: an evil kid up to mischief. But be forewarned that Bobbie is no normal kid. Bobbie's mischief involves mayhem, gore, death, and more. There is great power at work, a force that Bobbie can't understand, not at first, anyway.

Are you intrigued yet? I hope you are. I created them digitally and inserted the titles. They were fun to do, as simple as possible. I had half a dozen of them which are included here on Fine Art America. They've been sitting in a computer file because some of the collections were dismantled and the stories placed elsewhere. I'm adding to the collection with hand-drawn skullies as well as clown skullies and sugar skulls which I've been itching to draw since my coloring days.

******

Check out all the great art that Terri DelCampo has waiting for you on Fine Art America. https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/terri-delcampoYou'll be glad you did!

Blaze McRob

Blaze McRobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15593633013555705302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4527027449764294729.post-53380112312078976042023-06-16T07:26:00.002-07:002023-06-16T07:26:57.149-07:00ROMANTIC SHADOWS - BY TERRI DELCAMPO & BLAZE MCROB

https://books2read.com/u/31rapl

Romantic Shadows, by Terri DelCampo and Blaze McRob, is a collection published by Blazing Owl Press on our wedding anniversary back in 2016. We eased up a bit on our usual horror fare and wrote some romance-themed short stories and poems. Yes, there are certainly elements of horror contained within, but that is not all we present in this tome. Lovers are reunited in magical ways, the Dance Of Love soothes yearning hearts, and much more.

We hope you enjoy the softer side of horror we share with you here.

Blaze McRob

******

Cover art and poem above done by Terri DelCampo.

Blaze McRobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15593633013555705302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4527027449764294729.post-19031985749440294042023-06-14T07:16:00.000-07:002023-06-14T07:16:26.998-07:00UNHOLY RESOLUTIONS - BY BLAZE MCROB

https://www.amazon.com/Blazing-Owl-Short-Horror-Resolutions-ebook/dp/B085S1WJHZ?ref_=ast_author_dp

Unholy Resolutions is one of many short stories I have written. This one takes place in New York City on New Year's Eve. I have included a short teaser below. I hope you enjoy my tale.

Blaze McRob

******

Selwah watches as he has always watched. Before humans inhabited this planet, he was a part of the order of things, destined to be close to the Creator, to serve his needs, to be exalted, but also to be under the thumb of God, never to reach the personification of grandeur that he aspired to.

Then one day it became even worse. God created humans. Not only were they given a special place in the heart of the Master, Jehovah decided they should be elevated above the Angels. These pathetic monkey-beings were supposedly made in the image of God.

Satan rebelled against this foolishness and was thrown from Heaven, banished in disgrace. Other Angels aligned with him suffered the same fate, but to them it did not matter. What good was it to merely parade around a Deity, suck up to him as it were, in exchange for . . . in exchange for what? To bask in the glory of a God with an ego the size of the universe?

Blaze McRobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15593633013555705302noreply@blogger.com0
