RED SURF - BY BLAZE MCROB

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MYDZWBP/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i44

Red Surf, a short story by Blaze McRob, is a tale of revenge, triggered by incidents which could have, in real life, led to tragic results for many people. The book description sets it up nicely.

Once known for romance,

This place turns into a bloody dance;

In the tempo of disease

On an island no one leaves.

******

To add even more of a reason to check out my tale, I have included a short teaser below.

******

There is just a sliver of a moon tonight, barely enough to show the surf for what it is. Others like me stare out into the gently rippling waters, the hunger in our bellies driving us mad from the ravenous urge to seek out more prey. But one cannot eat what is not there.

Maybe . . .  just maybe if I wade out into the red surf one more time there will be a morsel overlooked from before.

Others beat me to it, but it is all for naught. The blood-stained waters are barren. We saw to that earlier. Santa Catalina. The old song beats a wild staccato in my head. No, this is no longer an island of romance. Leave me alone, damn it!

But it doesn't leave me alone. Over and over again the words assault me. How can there be romance without people? There can't. This is insanity. Everything is insanity now. 4,000 residents of this island are either now dead or like me. Maybe I'd be better off dead.

The old clay and metal pipes which wore away long ago allowed human sewage to flow into the city's ground water and eventually into Avalon Bay. Over the years the bacteria deposits grew and gained entry into the bodies of those tending the beaches. Day after day we were assaulted without even knowing it.

The fecal bacteria inside my body tear at me, changing me more and more from what once was a human to whatever it is I am now. Chunks of flesh have fallen away from me, leaving boils and pockets of pus. My hair is rapidly becoming a thing of the past, joining with my departed flesh as it becomes litter on the beach, further desecrating it.

FLASH IN THE PAN - BY TERRI DELCAMPO

Flash In The Pan is Terri DelCampo's latest short story. I love how Terri keeps the reader more involved in the story with her styling of warnings throughout the tale, alerting the protagonists about things to do and not to do as the story progresses. She pulls this off well. Naturally, as I read the story, I was on the lookout for more clues to what was inevitable, but which actually wasn't. This brought about a paradox of facts and solutions to every twist and turn. Nothing is cast in stone in this story. This is a most intriguing tale.

MISTS OF PAPOOSE POND - BY BLAZE MCROB

https://www.amazon.com/Mists-Papoose-Pond-Blaze-McRob-ebook/dp/B017DMCFHI/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=mists+of+papoose+pond&qid=1624146522&s=books&sr=1-1

Mists of Papoose Pond is one of those weird tales that flits around in my mind, demanding to be told. And so, I allowed my story people to whisper in my ear, telling me which keys to punch, and what words to write. This is how I write. I hope you enjoy my styling method.

******

Here is a short story description:

Where will it begin?

On a mountaintop?

At the bottom of the sea?

In a spaceship?

Or perhaps in a cabin by a pond enveloped by mysterious mists.

Mysterious mists that secrete forces of nature…

And good and evil.

******

Ed Hageman wants nothing more than to relax at Papoose Pond, but that's not to be. As the ultimate battle between good and evil shapes up around him, creatures are not what they seem. Many twists of fate, and many shocks await not only Ed and his companions, but those of you who read his story.

Prophets of yore were not all-seeing after all. Gods and devils are not how holy books described them.

Blaze McRob spins the tale.

Blaze McRob untangles the legend.

Blaze McRob finds the meaning in the Mists of Papoose Pond.

******

Here is the first chapter:

I can't sleep. My bedroom is stifling, even though it's usually cool in the early morning hours in this part of Maine.

"Shit!" I mutter to myself. "I might as well grab a smoke and go outside where it's cooler."

Slipping into my boxers, I grab my Camels and my lighter and hightail it outdoors where I do enjoy a little more refreshing air. I slide up to the railing of the porch and sit, watching the mists roll across the pond.

Pond: that's a misnomer for you. Nothing in Maine is the same as any place else. Anywhere else, this would be a lake. It's three miles long by a mile or more wide. In New Jersey where I come from, that's a damned lake. What difference does it make?  They call it Papoose Pond, so Papoose Pond it is.

My family has been coming up here for years. At least until my grandfather stopped bringing us. All at once, for no apparent reason, he decided he no longer wanted to spend a week in the rustic cabins in southwestern Maine. Being the tight-lipped German he was, no one was about to get any information out of him. Stubborn was his middle name.

What difference does it matter? My siblings and I have long since split apart, my parents and grandparents are dead, my wife is now my ex, and I just want some me time for a change. Fuck everyone else. This is the perfect place for it: the getaway; my retreat into relaxation before I throw my life back together.

My grandfather told the owners of the pond many years ago that they should fix things up a bit, modernize, get with the times. They did to a point but still manage to keep the rustic look and feel of the place. And the fishing? Still fantastic! Crappie and White Perch still hover around twenty inches long and have deep, thick bodies. As for the Bass fishing, just try plying a surface plug through the waters at night and see how far it goes before some Largemouth or Bronzeback plasters the living hell out of it.

I caught my share of fish hours ago, keeping only enough for some fish stew later in the day, but the sounds floating around, catching my ears, are not the ones associated with fish frolicking and chasing their smaller counterparts before closing in on them for the kill. These sounds are different. I have heard them before, even from my bed. This morning they are closer because I am outside.

The smoke from my Camel curls up into the air, dancing about, trying to mimic the mists rolling in from out on the pond. They're coming in from the north end where the lily pads sit thick at the edge of a deep water drop off. This is the best place on the pond to catch the giant White Perch and Crappies. It is adjacent to the Crooked River access, and springs are in abundance there.

Something else also resides there. I have always felt it, not knowing what it is, but feeling it play along my skin, teasing me, and creating goosebumps before vanishing into nothingness.

From something to nothing in a matter of minutes. Not one time but many. Could this be what caused my grandfather to stop coming here? Did the fear finally get to him? Maybe he found out what it was and wanted no part of it. I'll never know. Dead men don't talk.

Or do they?

What about the day we had a giant stringer of huge fish attached to the oarlocks of the rowboat? Somehow the stringer managed to come free from its attachments and the fish slowly sank towards the deepest part of the lily pad area. My grandfather had plenty of time to snag the stringer with the oar in his hand, but he froze, unable to move, and the stringer and the fish vanished from sight. I started to ask him why he made no effort, but I stopped, knowing the kind of answer I would get: or wouldn't get.

The mists come closer and closer to the cabin, and even though it sits some fifty yards from the pond's edge, the dancing droplets of condensation seemingly pirouette their way across the beach to where I'm sitting, first ankle high, then reaching mid-way up my chest. The cigarette smoke joins with the swirling fog and they cavort as one, creating a calming feeling massaging my unsettled mind.

Peaceful shapes dance all around me. I smile at ballerinas performing their amazing tiptoe jumps and landings, the mists opening and closing to accentuate their delicate, precise movements. I put my cigarette out, thinking I can go back to sleep, contentment putting me in the mood.

A sudden chill hits me before I can get to my feet. Bone-chilling cold, causing my hands to turn blue instantly. The ballerinas' faces vanish, replaced by monstrous, billowing towers of inhuman shapes.

Substance comes from the distortion of the mists! Flesh and bone hovering over me, smiling at me. No, not smiling - leering at me!

Brownish-yellow teeth, sharp and pointed, force their way into prominence when the creatures open their mouths, tongues lapping at miniscule lips, telling me where their next meal is coming from. Me! They want me!

I run to the door of the cabin, hoping to get inside and lock it behind me so they can't get inside. Sure, as if the door will pose a problem for these monsters!

A huge, scaly leg reaches out and trips me, sending me to the floor of the porch. Gigantic webbed hands reach out to me, the sharpened, elongated nails threatening to tear me apart. Water drips off these creatures combining with a slime from their powerful chests and finds its way into my eyes. I scream in pain as blindness overcomes me!

It's just as well. I don't want to see what's going to happen next. Let it be over! Let it be over!

The pressure of the air coming down on me, forced by the behemoths' closeness, intensifies. They are almost on me!

******

This novel is loaded with horror, non-stop action, and monsters. Lots of monsters.

******

Here's a short sample to whet your horror thirst:

The small circus has traveled pretty much the same route for years. Sure, there have been a few occasions where extreme weather or wars have caused some fluctuations, but the little farming communities in the far-flung sections of this part of western New Jersey look forward to the big top with all the excitement of the high-wire acts, the animal taming with lions and tigers looking as if they might maul their handlers at any time, and the balancing acts done by agile men and women on barrels and other assorted objects seemingly much more suited to other uses.

Yet, the mainstay of the circus, the clowns, are often overlooked. Sure, there are those who laugh at their antics, appreciating the dexterity they possess to perform the nimble moves needed to make it appear their falls, slaps, and other hilarious hijinks are real and not contrived, but, for the most part, there is a ho-hum attitude about them, and the children often times are afraid of the brightly made up faces of these entertainers and scream whenever one comes close.

Jangles is the clown who has been with the Davis Bros. Circus the longest; exactly how long no one can really remember. It seems as if he has always been a part of the show. He is not happy with the lack of respect given to him and his peers, but he chooses not to engage in the dressing room conversations when his friends discuss the possibility that maybe, just maybe, the clown as an entertainer is going the way of the dodo bird.

Nonsense, he figures. Without clowns, there would be no circuses. If circuses themselves vanish from the scene, then maybe what they say is true, yet, that won't happen.

Never will that happen, he thinks. Never.

The evening air is hot and humid tonight, typical for late June, and there is no movement in it at all. The other clowns are uncomfortable in their costumes and heavy make-up, just waiting for the show to be over so they can strip down and cool themselves off, but the heat doesn't bother Jangles. Bring it on, he thinks. I can handle it.

When the show is over, everyone in the circus rushes to cool off as the crowds return home, back to their mediocre existences. Jangles leaves his makeup and costume on and watches the guests leave, taking note of which direction they are going and keeping a close eye on those who leave alone.

Yes, the people who came here on their own are the ones who interest Jangles the most. A private show for them would be most fitting. He will not let them down.

A young lady, not in any hurry to leave, takes in all the majesty the Big Top has to offer. Now that it is empty, there is a special added charm: the flickering lights catch all the corners, creating shadows of mystery and allure. From out of one of the corners, Jangles steps forth, his bright red mouth and white face talking to her without the benefit of words.

They move towards each other, deliberately, but not pushing the timing any. The moment is special. It cannot be rushed.

The clown stares into her eyes before moving to her throat, where he gently places his lips, first planting a sweet kiss upon her, and then releasing the fangs within his mouth to dig into her carotid. He draws long and hard on the bright red sustenance flowing from her neck, which to him is as mead presented from the Gods.

Destiny Changed, by Blaze McRob, is an unusual Ghoul tale, coming from the depths of my twisted  mind. How twisted? Read and find out. The book description says it all:

A Novella By Blaze McRob

Ghouls are fed up

Can't keep their heads up

In God's eyes they're dreck

A mistake gone unchecked.

Lillith and Algol,

Ghouls that inspire awe

Give Destiny birth

Begin showing Ghoul worth.

The Chosen One surprising

Leads the uprising

By misfits is adored

Babe wields lightning sword.

Twixt Devil and God

Through bloodiest sod

World order arranged

By Destiny changed.

(Poem by Terri DelCampo)

******

Here's a short teaser to whet your horror whistle.

Springtime. Fresh air carries the aroma of recently shoveled dirt, moistened by the recent rains, throughout the graveyard. Shovels, left behind in a hurry when the downpour started, lie on the ground next to the grave of the newest inhabitant.

Normality? Yes, but a sinister presence surveys the scene, not the least bit happy. Chunks of wet soil cling to his hair-covered, naked body. His nails are long and unkempt, and yet, what difference does it make? They are more effective for him to use when digging than any shovel fashioned by the hands of man. He lives beneath the surface, under the graves, in small cave-like areas formed from his own efforts, surrounded by the clothing removed from the local residents.

They won't say anything. Ha, ha! Dead people can't snitch on him.

The taste of rotting flesh rolls around on his tongue, reminding him of his hunger, his insatiable desire to feed. Heavy rain comes down, slapping a tune on the gravestones better than any drumstick. He delights in the awareness of the cleansing of his hair and skin.

Momentary pleasure; he is still pissed . . . pissed that God remanded him and his kind to suffer the indignities of their existence. Undead, yes. Immortal, yes. However, these things come at the high price of humiliation. Forced to feed on the dead like a common vulture is not to his liking.

Yet, this is the way it's always been. How can it change now? He is not stronger than God; he is merely a creature formed by His hand, to do His bidding.

The new carcass beckons to him, speaking to him, insisting that he feed. His hunger forces him to go and dig up the coffin. He tears the lid open and gazes at the body of a young woman struck down in her prime. She cannot possibly be any more than in her early twenties. Her clothing and hair style tell him this. Maybe he doesn't live amongst the rabble known as humans, but he has devoured enough of them to know the latest fads and fashions, and his highly enhanced sense of smell is able to decipher the age of a person by unfolding different layers of skin and reading them much like a botanist counts the rings of a tree.

This one smells peculiar to him; no odor of decay, of embalming fluids. Recent death. A mortician trying to save a little money. Shit, who knows? As long as she was remanded to the soil in a timely manner, all would be well.

But no; this is more, much more. Fool that he is, his hunger plays games with his mind. His desire to feed overcomes his usual stealth. Vigilance thrown out the window!

She is alive! In some sort of comatose state, but the girl is very much alive.

Now what?! He can't devour her. It is not allowed. Does he close the casket back up and re-bury her?

******

I hope you enjoy reading this most unusual book.

LAST CHANCE - BY BLAZE MCROB

Last Chance, by Blaze McRob, is for those of you looking for an end of days tale with a different twist. It is a mixture of horror, dark fiction, spiritual revenge, and even has some romance sprinkled in. As is my custom, the entire novel will be loaded with action and adventure.

Mother Nature's pissed at humans, for selling her out for cash.

She shows them money cannot save them from lava rivers and volcanic ash.

The only hope for humankind is a hero name of Storm.

Will he and his earth-loving mate see the human species reborn?

******

Here is a short snippet from chapter one to show you I waste no time in getting to some action.

******

Time was running out.

Charlie stared at the clouds building in the west. Once more the forces of nature were about to unleash their fury on the residents of Cheyenne. Since the early days of this infernal devastation of the planet, this city had appeared safe. Six thousand feet high, far removed from the coastal flooding which had obliterated entire cities from the face of the earth, the ravaging tempests of the oceans would not affect life here.

Not so.

Cause and effect. It was happening again.

The skies turned almost black, even though it was early afternoon. Lightning struck the surrounding prairies, leaving beautiful, but garish, displays of the power within the clouds. Thunder boomed, rattling buildings. This was no ordinary thunder: it resonated with a fervor of vengeance, shouting to all who would listen that the skies were king. Humans were frail beings, unable to withstand the onslaught of destruction, and the devastation was seconds away.

Twin tornadoes came in on the city, throwing cars into buildings, any unfortunate souls trapped inside screaming as their vehicles became airborne. Some of the fortunate ones were able to holler out after a violent impact. Others were not so fortunate. Only silence surrounded them.

Terri DelCampo has brought many tales written by her to Blazing Owl Press. I'm sure readers have noticed we have many books  here. Most of these are Terri's. There is legend; there is lore; there is horror.

We eased up a bit on our usual horror fare and wrote some romance-themed short stories and poems. Yes, there are certainly elements of horror contained within, but that is not all we present in this tome. Lovers are reunited in magical ways, the Dance Of Love soothes yearning hearts, and much more.

We hope you enjoy the softer side of horror we share with you here.

FOOD TRUCK FAIR, by Terri DelCampo, is a short story that is true to what happens in far too many instances around the world. In Terri's words:

A short story to tell of unlimited greed.

Developers' purses off townspeople feed.

SELECTED TALES FOR HALLOWEEN - BY BLAZE MCROB

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HCNN8SJ/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i45

Selected Tales for Halloween, by Blaze McRob, is ready for your reading enjoyment. This is a compilation I believe you'll really enjoy. There is a most interesting collection of horror prose and verse waiting for you within this tome.

******

Book description:

For some Halloween lasts all the year through

But if this doesn't apply to you

McRob's six tales for your trick or treat sack

Should keep you awake through night velvet black

And every minute 'til Halloween next,

So terrifying you'll think you've been hexed.

******

Here's a generous sneak peak of the action.

******

He stands before the large bay window, looking down upon the streets below, not really needing to see the evil happening. The visuals, courtesy of all his sensory perceptions, attack his mind.

And yet, The Committee condones such sadistic behavior as this. "Let them do as they will. It will all be sorted out later," they say. "Their feeble minds cannot grasp the concepts of good and evil, not enough for them to advance to an elevated status at any rate."

"Elevated, my ass!" he thinks. "All of us on The Committee were once like these weaklings. We found it difficult to reason, to discard depravity and debauchery for the less than obvious elements of good inherent in humans and the world surrounding them."

Pacing back and forth, the raw energy of evil present in this city sickens him. Someone in his position should distance himself from what is present here. After all, it has taken him many lifetimes to achieve his elevated status. Yes, he has evolved beyond the rabble scratching around to make ends meet, to find a reason for existence, and perhaps … just perhaps, to find at least some happiness from the filth which is ever-present here.

But through it all, he remembers. How can he possibly forget the times when he was beaten down by those wanting to keep him, and many others, in a state of abject slavery? Maybe the absence of freedom wasn't slavery as many envision it to be, but when one's soul is torn from the physical embodiment of humanity, what else would it be? One becomes nothing more than a Zombie, a dancing, unthinking, undead persona manipulated by a necromancer concerned only for his own welfare. And, his own power.

He laughs. Now the power belongs to him, an advanced being capable of an existence beyond human understanding. Yes, to those like him, the ones who have reached the "most perfect" stage of development, a utopian society exists, one in which Heaven is a state of glory residing within the minds of those fortunate enough to have reached the pinnacle of all that is.

Truth be known? They are Gods. And yet, should Gods look the other way when the unfortunate ones wallow around in ineptitude and suffer at the hands of the evil ones?

Ah, the Gods might have lost any semblance of previous humanity when their ultimate tableau was achieved.

Selchor, on the other hand, still retains compassion within his soul. It pains him when the unfortunate ones suffer as he once did. There is no reason for this. Those who can help, should help.

He dresses for the evening, donning the clothing of the time, and grabs his walking stick when he leaves the apartment. Once he reaches the streets, he blends in with everyone else around him.

His cane beats a staccato along the sidewalk as he walks towards the place of supreme evil manifestations. For too long, this street has been a sinister one, hiding secrets, exposing pain . . . pain shoved upon those much too young to experience it.

A large man, easily 300 pounds, bald, and wearing an expensive suit, embroidered shirt, and fancy wingtips, comes out of the adjoining alleyway and motions for him to stop.

"I take it you're here for the young girls," he says. "Name your age, and we can fulfill your fantasy and allow you to live life to the fullest, doing what so few are able to experience."

Selchor smiles at the man. "Yes, my good man. I am here for the children. Your fame has spread farther than you can imagine."

The pimp gives the stranger a funny look, wondering exactly what this man is talking about. "And exactly what are you looking for, might I ask?"

"I would like to have all the young ladies assembled before me, so I can choose."

"All of them?"

"Yes, all of them. I will gladly pay you up front if you are concerned about my intent."

The big guy salivates at the thought of his entire assemblage being paid for. "Of course. Whatever you wish, sir."

He grabs a cell phone out of his pocket and makes a couple quick calls. Within minutes, a dozen young women of differing ages are paraded before him.

Selchor laughs and says, "I'll take them all."

"All of them?" the pimp asks.

Handing him the money, Selchor says, "Yes, all of them."

The girls are shoved towards him, and Selchor says, "I am setting you free. Go and never return. There is nothing left for you here, and you need not worry about anything. I'm giving you your freedom."

They are reluctant to leave at first, but something about the calm exterior of their benefactor soothes them, and they scramble away.

The procurer is upset and attempts to shove the cane-bearing man out of the way, so he can retrieve the girls, but Selchor holds him, and his henchmen, back. In no time at all the former slaves are gone.

"But this is not what you asked for," the bald man says, anger shoved from every pore in his body. "I thought . . ."

"You think far too much, I must say," Selchor says. "I never said what I wanted the girls for. You merely assumed. You and your henchmen are evil people and should have your eyes opened to the truth of who you really are."

The fancy-dressed pimp laughs now. "I don't believe a man carrying a cane will be able to do much damage to the six of us."

"Do not be deceived by me or my cane. Your time of reckoning has come."

They charge en masse, but Selchor touches a button on the cane's handle, and a knife blade, easily a foot long, slides out from the end. "Looky what I have here, me lads. Guess what? I know how to use it too."

The fight is brutal. Blood, guts, and chunks of flesh fly everywhere. One by one, Selchor deftly removes their hearts, impales them on the blade, and places them in the hands of their owners.

Selchor watches as the spirits rise from the fallen bodies and stare down at what is now nothing more than food for the rats. He laughs, a most unsettling one, and says, "It appears that the time has come for you to go to Heaven or Hell. Which one is it?"

Confusion runs through their souls. This was not expected. Heaven or Hell is a choice left to them? How can this be?

"Yes, you have this choice," Selchor tells them. "Tell me: which path are you taking?"

Even before they have the chance to say that Heaven is the obvious choice, thoughts jump into their minds, talking to them of all the evil they have perpetrated in their lives. How many times were people, some very young, subjected to pain to supply them with pleasure and a fulfillment of power? Too many times. They grab their heads and cry out in pain, trying to exorcise the demons present within them.

It doesn't work.

All of them are dragged away to Hell. But, of course, there is not one Hell. For them, there are six Hells, and no two are the same. Selchor smiles as he watches their twisting, convoluted efforts to escape the grasp of the demons pulling them into the darkness.

Silence. The sweet sound of nothing takes over. The pimp and his crew are gone, taken into Hell on the wings of their own guilt. Justice has been served.

Selchor surveys the scene and his former humanity becomes more dominant. He loses none of the knowledge he has gained over time. If anything, he is more advanced than the others on The Committee. Knowledge, power, and humanity all belong to him.

Heaven and Hell are abstracts and reside within the minds and souls of those going to one or the other. If a person believes they have done good during their past life, they will advance to the next level of humanity, or they can happily exist in Heaven as they are. But those who are tormented by the guilt of the past evils they have committed will send themselves to Hell.

How sweet is this? Heaven and Hell reside within one's self.

Selchor knows now he cannot return to the lofty enclave of others of his kind. It is wrong to look the other way.

The world needs an interceder. Selchor is perfect for the job.

******

Selchor discards his earlier clothing and dons a new costume. One cannot exactly prance about on Halloween in attire that is not suited for the occasion at hand. Unlike mere moments before when he was on a mission, one which many might have seen as brutal, he was dressed perfectly. But now another part of the evening presents itself.

This is the time for festivities. In his last life on this planet, one of his greatest joys was the Trick or Treating, the Halloween parties, the scary stories, and all else that went with the evening. Nothing else even came close.

And being just one incarnation away from the supreme one, the magical qualities of the evening were not lost on him. Tonight, he feels it. There is more in the air than candy and bobbing for apples. Much more. In this part of the city in which he has chosen to dwell, there is evil and corruption everywhere. And his neighbors, none of whom have any idea who or what he is, who think him a cripple in need of a cane, are poor and must go from house to house or apartment to apartment to try and get a decent amount of candy. Yet, that is not easy when people are all beaten down and many families have one or both parents gone, or worse yet, are still present, but have fallen into such a state that they are worthless to themselves and their children.

How many children here go to school with bruises they must hide from the teachers and other students? Better to ask how many don't, or how many children don't go to school because they need to scrounge around for work of any kind to put food in the mouths of their siblings and themselves, and support the selfish habits of their worthless parents?

In his present incarnation, Selchor has the power to alter his image in whatever manner he chooses. Tonight, he wishes to be Captain America. Looking in the mirror to get everything just perfect, he smiles as a tug here and there produces the desired look. Of course, he will take along his cane. The children will feel safer with him carrying it, knowing he is still their friendly neighbor.

Hmm. Captain America, superhero or not, will walk with a limp and have a battered cane.

The children knock on his door, hoping he is ready to go and squeal with delight when he stands before them. "Mr. Selchor," a little hobo says when he stares at him, "you look great!"

"Thank you . . . ah, I'm not sure who you are."

"I'm Tommy!"

"Wow! You sure had me fooled with your great costume."

Of course, it's easy for a poor kid to be a hobo. All he needs is raggedy clothes, which he already has. And there are several ghosts also, since old sheets and blankets are certainly at their disposal.

None of the children have decent containers to hold their candy. Selchor expected that.

"I have taken the liberty to buy all you kids a big plastic pumpkin to put your candy in, and so people won't think you're all amateurs at this game, I have filled them halfway."

The children stare in disbelief. They have never come close to receiving this much candy before.

"Is everyone here?" Selchor asks.

Tommy stares at the floor, a sad look on his face. "Susan's not. She didn't have a costume and she's not feeling well."

The Interceder knows that's not the truth. Even Tommy has some visible bruises on his neck and arms. "I have a Princess gown that should fit your sister, Tommy, and a pumpkin as well. We'll stop by your apartment and see if she's feeling any better."

"But my parents . . ."

"Don't worry, Tommy. I'll take care of everything. Believe me.

"Is there anyone else who isn't here?"

Tommy's sister is not the only missing sibling or friend not here. Selchor seethes with anger but cannot show it to the children. "I see," he says. "Okay, we are going to take extra pumpkins to everyone, as well as costumes I have scattered around this place of mine. I'm thinking we go to Mr. Smith's apartment first. I'm sure his children would love to go with us."

"But Mr. Smith is really poor. He's getting ready to be thrown out of his apartment," little Billy says. "I know his children don't have any costumes."

"They will when we get there, Billy, and so will Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I have a Thor and a Wonder Woman costume here. Can never have enough super heroes."

The children laugh at Selchor, but they are more than eager to go to the Smiths' apartment first. They knock on their door, and a surprised Mrs. Smith opens it to them. Looking at all the children, she says, "I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I don't have any candy," a crestfallen look on her face.

"Not to worry," Selchor says. "We have candy and costumes for you. What do you say we hit the town?"

Mr. Smith comes up and stares at the group, a huge smile on his face. "Did I hear let's hit the town?"

"Indeed you did, sir. You and your family get dressed and we'll go."

They go to their rooms and come back in a flash, Mr. Smith wearing his Thor costume, carrying a hammer in one hand and his cane in another.

"Hot-diggities," Selchor says. "Two superheroes with canes. I'm liking this more and more with every passing second.

"And, Mrs. Smith, you are the most gorgeous Wonder Woman I have ever seen."She blushes at his remarks. "Thank you, Mr. Selchor. This should be a fun evening."

"It will indeed, my fine lady. And your children certainly look great in their Zombie costumes. I would say that our little group will make quite an impression on the neighborhood residents."

Shonk, by Terri DelCampo, is one of those stories that has you guessing right up until the end. Just when I thought I knew where the tale was taking me, I discovered I was wrong. But that's the way I like a good horror story. If everything is easily determined ahead of time, the excitement is lacking. Being pulled into a story is the way to go. Read this story, and you'll see what I mean.

Hearse Full of Verse, by Blaze McRob, is now available for your Halloween reading pleasure. This book is dedicated to aficionados of offbeat poetry. There is nothing in this collection that might be considered mainstream. After all, I must maintain my rather crusty image.

Rhymes will take you into Hell

Blazin' Bard McRob do tell

Many's the night we'll like awake

After verse hearse ride we take.

Come along for horror trip

Blaze pledges screams from you he'll rip.

I must thank Terri DelCampo for the most scintillating cover art. I find the black and yellow to create just the right ambiance.

BLAZE MCROB'S PATREON PAGE

https://www.patreon.com/Blaze_McRob

Below are some posts I have on my Patreon page.

******

If you love horror, I believe you’ll love this. It’s my only tier and will be loaded with short stories and serialized novels. As a patron, you’ll be able to access every tale of horror that I post on Patreon. I will be adding a mix of at least thirty unique stories and novel chapters each month. It promises to be a wild ride.

Thank you for your support. I am grateful for your patronage.

About Blaze McRob

I’m a rather diverse writer. Some of my fans refer to me as being the King of Revenge Horror. Others know me for my action stories. Both are right. Add in many other strange quirks and traits and you’ll find a writer who is not bound by any constraints. Horror has always been my first love. At the age of nine, I had already consumed everything written by the great Edgar Allan Poe. So naturally, I will fill my Patreon page with many short stories of the dark, serial fiction novels, flash fiction, Father Blaze Nursery Rhymes, zombie fairy tales, horror poetry, science fiction, and more. There will be untold hours of escapism found in my tales of horror.

There will be no non-fiction on my page. I would be just another voice crying out in the wilderness. I want none of that. I will deal with whatever issues attack my gray matter the way I know best: using my story people to handle the evil running around on this spinning rock of ours from deep within my soul. My system. It works for me.

Every month, I will have at least a mix of thirty stories, novel chapters, or my other fiction. Everything I post here will not be available to read anywhere else. This place is for my loyal fans and patrons. All this for only $3.00 a month.

All my writings will remain exclusive to Patreon for at least three months after their posting. After that time period, I will make them available for sale elsewhere. However, I will not remove any of my tales from Patreon. My Patrons will still be able to read everything here. And, believe me, that's a lot of reading.

Thank you for your time. I hope to have many of you as Patrons.

******

As you can see, I removed the confusion factor and only have one tier. For $3.00 a month, you can read everything I post here. It all stays here. That gives you plenty of time to read everything I post. As of the moment, I have 469 writings on my page. I've only been on Patreon since October 1st of 2020. I have a lot more to add.

For novel lovers, I have already published eight novels, one chapter at a time:

Wolf Whispers

Ghost No More

Destiny Changed

Mists Of Papoose Pond

Last Chance

Again, Damn It!

Quarter Moon Haunts

'68 Buick

I am currently working on four other novels:

Again, Damn It! : Book Two

Quarter Moon Haunts: Book Two

Enchanted Gateway

The Fatal Shot

All this is in addition to many short stories.

I honestly believe you'll get your money's worth and more.

This is Halloween Month. If you enjoy reading scary stories, this is the perfect month for you to catch a whole lot of horror, right from your easy chair.

Happy reading!

DISABILITY CHALLENGE: TRAPPED IN A LIFT CHAIR DURING POWER OUTAGES - BY TERRI DELCAMPO

https://terridelcampo.blogspot.com/

Terri DelCampo has a short, helpful tip on her Broken Old Broad blog https://terridelcampo.blogspot.com/ . The article is Disability Challenge: Trapped in a Lift Chair During Power Outages  and can be found here, https://terridelcampo.blogspot.com/2021/09/disability-challenge-trapped-in-lift.html .

While this might seem a trivial matter to some, it certainly isn't for Terri. She's a lot more at ease now that we've bought the items mentioned in her post. I'm thinking that there might very well be other handicapped folks who could use this advice.

Check out more of Terri's blogs on her website. She has something for everyone!
