LIVING GREEN: BLAZING OWL PRESS WILL PUBLISH ONLY EBOOKS

Painting by Vi Huntley-Franck

Terri DelCampo and I have decided that our Press will publish only eBooks. We were thinking of adding in print books, as well, but we decided against it. I know a lot of people will think we're wrong for going this way, that we'll be hurting ourselves with this kind of limiting factor, but our decision is based on the fact that we are green-minded. We live on a wooded lot and look outside every day and see trees, leaves, and more. We constantly talk about conservation of all kinds. It lessens our footprint on the planet.

A lot of people talk about dead tree books, and they're completely right. None of that for us. We are not demanding the industry does as we do. This is our way to give something back to the planet we live on. Climate change is already at work, and it's not for the best.

I know this is perhaps a small thing in many people's eyes. Others will say we're depriving ourselves of money. Maybe. Maybe not. We have just expanded the number of digital stores where our books are sold. We have other plans in the works. However, none of these plans call for destroying trees or polluting the ground with chemicals needed to transform the trees into paper. This is a highly technical era we live in. We aim to use the best of what science has to offer.

The reasons for our Press taking a stand for this position are pretty clear. Other Presses don't wish to do what we do. Their choice. Some readers like to read paperback books only. Once again, this is their choice. We have multiple outlets included for reading our books. We offer them for sale in many fine digital stores. We have them available to read in libraries. Definitely a lot of places to find them. All in eBook form.

Getting to some added perspective, I'm interjecting one of my cutting retorts to what a number of people are tossing around on the internet. What's this, you ask? Many people are saying that real books are only made from paper. Digital books are not real books in their opinion. Personally, I don't care what they believe. A book is a book is a book. Terri and I wish to be green. We have this thing called science that makes it possible to read books on a reader. I believe in science. I could be archaic and say that real books are only those painted on the walls of caves, but I'm not. The words in a book talk to me far more than smelling paper, or cave mold.

So, if you want to smell paper, that's your decision. Don't try to palm it off on Terri and me. Our books are real books.

Thank you for your time.
