FLASH IN THE PAN - BY TERRI DELCAMPO

Flash In The Pan is one Terri DelCampo's great short stories. I love how Terri keeps the reader more involved in the story with her styling of warnings throughout the tale, alerting the protagonists about things to do and not to do as the story progresses. She pulls this off well. Naturally, as I read the story, I was on the lookout for more clues to what was inevitable, but which actually wasn't. This brought about a paradox of facts and solutions to every twist and turn. Nothing is cast in stone in this story. This is a most intriguing tale.

BLAZE MCROB'S PATREON PAGE

https://www.patreon.com/Blaze_McRob

Blaze McRob's Patreon page came out three years ago in October, just in time for that most magic month of the year for horror stories. I have a picture above showing a caption of my one and only tier on Patreon. I priced this at $3.00 per month so that people who love the horror genre can get a lot of bang for their buck.

When I started out on Patreon I wrote:

"I’m a rather diverse writer. Some of my fans refer to me as being the King of Revenge Horror. Others know me for my action stories. Both are right. Add in many other strange quirks and traits and you’ll find a writer who is not bound by any constraints. Horror has always been my first love. At the age of nine, I had already consumed everything written by the great Edgar Allan Poe. So naturally, I will fill my Patreon page with many short stories of the dark, serial fiction novels, flash fiction, Father Blaze Nursery Rhymes, zombie fairy tales, horror poetry, science fiction, and more. There will be untold hours of escapism found in my eclectic tales.

There will be no non-fiction editorials on my page. I would be just another voice crying out in the wilderness. I want none of that. I will deal with whatever issues attack my gray matter the way I know best: using my story people to handle the evil running around on this spinning rock of ours from deep within my soul. My system. It works for me.

Every month, I will have at least a mix of thirty stories, novel chapters, or my other fiction. Everything I post here will not be available to read anywhere else. This place is for my loyal fans and patrons. All this for only $3.00 a month.

All my writings will remain exclusive to Patreon for at least three months after their posting. After that time period, I might make them available for sale elsewhere. However, I will not remove any of my tales from Patreon. My Patrons will still be able to read everything here. And, believe me, that's a lot of reading."

******

Since writing the above, I have added a serialized non-fiction book about running which I'm still adding to, some fantasy, and some totally outrageous novels. So far I have twelve completed novels on Patreon, of which six are exclusive there. I also have one completed novella, four completed novelettes, and hundreds of short stories. I'm also working on seven more novels, novellas, and novelettes.

Thank you for your time. I hope you'll visit my Patreon page and like what you see. My posts will be coming fast and furious! Come along for the ride. You'll find a welcome home here.

Blazin' Scairy Tales, by Blaze McRob, is ready for your reading enjoyment. Though this is a book of Fairy Tales, it is not for children. Zombie versions of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White and the Seven Zombies, and Rumpelstiltskin are all included here, as well as Nursery Rhymes such as Zombie Porgie, All The Zombies, Little Jack Horner, Mary Had a Little Lamb, and Precious Miss Zombie.

Lest they be rattling their crib rails.

These fairy scairies from Blaze's quill

Send up your spine the iciest of chills.

So tuck yourself in but leave on the light…

Get ready for Blaze's tales of fright.

******

Here's a short teaser for this book:

******

There was once a wealthy man who lost his wife and remarried in haste. His second wife was a shrew, so proud and haughty that within a short time he realized his mistake, but the deed was done. Worse than that, she brought into his fine house two daughters who were just like her.

Ah, but his own daughter, a lovely lass, as beautiful on the inside as the outside, was made to feel inferior by the stepmother and her two beautiful but persnickety daughters. The new mistress of the mansion saw fit to have her do all the work that a scullery maid would normally do, while her daughters had not to lift a finger to help around the house. They gave her the name Cinderella because when her work was done, she had to sit amongst the ashes.

But Cinderella did not tell her father what was happening because she realized he was being controlled by his domineering wife and did not wish to cause him any more hardship.

And it came to be that the King’s son gave a series of balls to which the finest in the kingdom would come. There was a longing in his heart to find a proper woman that he might come to love, for even though royal blood flowed through his veins, he was lonely and desperately wanted a love to call his own.

So, it was that her stepsisters should be invited to the biggest ball of all and had Cinderella, who was a Master of Fine taste, assist them in preparing their clothes and hair for the grand event. Even though the two bickered amongst themselves constantly, Cinderella managed to bedeck them in the finest clothing and coiffures imaginable, and they soon left in their carriage, but not before teasing their stepsister that she was not going to the ball.

The pain of doing everything in her power to make her stepsisters look so grand while she had to remain home in her dusty enclave caused her to break down and cry as she was sitting on the edge of the hearth.

“And what might be wrong, my sweet lass?”

Cinderella stared into the face of a short, disheveled woman with raggedy wings. Her face was covered with boils and peeling flesh. Truth be told, she appeared to be on death’s door, but in spite of it all, her disposition was cheery.

“And who . . . and who might you be?” Cinderella asked, shocked at the very presence of this woman.

The woman laughed. “Why, I am your Fairy Godmother.”

“But you look almost like you are dead.”

“Ah, my dear, I am dead, but I am not dead.”

Terri DelCampo has some great holiday horror for your ooky palate. Chills has eight stories that will show you a different side of the holiday season. Terri has a charming way about her that will draw you in with mellow prose but will slap you alongside the head too. The one-two punch. Loverly.

So, my friends, once the kids have gone to sleep, slide Chills onto your Kindle, put a spiffy nightcap on, and read away. You'll be glad you did.

AGAIN, DAMN IT! - BY BLAZE MCROB

https://www.patreon.com/Blaze_McRob

Again, Damn It!, by Blaze McRob, is a full-length, real-life horror novel. I use a bare-knuckled approach all the way through it. From the very beginning, the tone of the novel is set.

This novel is exclusive to my Patreon page. You'll find a welcome home there.

Here is a short snippet from the first chapter:

******

I look across the vast room and see him sitting there. Alone. Staring out into space as if he's the only one here. But he's not alone. There are at least 200 boys in this dining area. Within himself, he's the only one present. He's lost there, still unaware of what's going on, why he's in this place, what lead him here. Two years old and James is totally confused.

Greg is taking it better than James. He's acclimating himself to what's around him. Blending in. As much as one can, considering the circumstances. This room of silence seems to fit him. How the people running this joint keep it this quiet is beyond me. Then again, maybe not so. They rule with an iron fist here. We play by their rules, or there are consequences.

Me? I'm just pissed. That's the best way to describe how I'm feeling.

Where’s Betty? Is she in the girls’ building? Maybe she’s with mom and dad, wherever they are. She’s just a baby, way too young to be here.

******

The day I arrived here was total confusion. I was walking up the outdoor stairs to our little apartment in Hackensack, having just walked there from school, and they were waiting for me on the landing. Two old women and a big guy. I was confused and started running back down the stairs, but the guy was a lot faster than me and had his hands on my shirt collar before I made it a few steps down.

“You’re coming with us,” he said.

"What’s going on?” I asked.

“You’ll find out later.”

“Let me get some clothes, at least.”

He laughed. “You won’t get anything out of there, kid. It’s been cleaned out. Nobody, or thing, is in there.

No answers to my questions. This was to be the start of that. I would be in a continual state of darkness as to what was going on around me. It was up to me to figure things out.

Happy reading, my friends!

Terri DelCampo has compiled quite a collection of horror poetry to sate your poetic horror appetites. Broken Old Broad Busts A Beat: HO - PO (Horror Poems), produces in spades. Even the cover art tells a story. I like to think of it as a reflective skeleton. Is that possible? Why not? Terri's poems sure make one think. Rather than go on and on about each and every poem and steal from the ambiance that Terri has created, I will merely state that my favorite poem in this collection is Songs From The Hanging Tree. Read it and you'll see why.

You can get an idea of the shenanigans included in this tome by viewing the delightful cover art that Terri DelCampo did for it. I hold nothing back in this novel, so get in on the fun and read along. You'll be glad you did.

Here is a short snippet from the first chapter:

******

Damn the dark! The power’s out again. I can’t see a thing. Wait. I have a pair of night goggles I’ve been playing around with sitting on the table next to the bed.

I put them on and am amazed at how well they work. Too bad I didn’t have these when I was in ‘Nam. Night blindness might be a much lesser curse than a lot of other things, but when you’re in the midst of battle it sure is nice to be able to see your enemy.

The night goggles are one of many new toys my wife and I have been experimenting with. Even though the middle of the road candidate won the election this year, I know hot beds of fascism will rear their ugly heads. Shit, we’re already living in a police state. Why people deny it makes no sense to me. Liberty after liberty is vanishing in the country. Terri - my wife - and I are ready for it. We have weapons, shooting range expertise, and more to combat it if it comes. Yes, we’re only two people, but, if the shit hits the fan, we will be prepared. At the worst, we won’t go out without a battle.

Shonk, by Terri DelCampo, is one of those stories that has you guessing right up until the end. Just when I thought I knew where the tale was taking me, I discovered I was wrong. But that's the way I like a good horror story. If everything is easily determined ahead of time, the excitement is lacking. Being pulled into a story is the way to go. Read this story, and you'll see what I mean.

RED SURF - BY BLAZE MCROB

 https://www.patreon.com/posts/red-surf-42267817

Red Surf, a short story by Blaze McRob, is a tale of revenge, triggered by incidents that could have, in real life, led to tragic results for many people. The book description sets it up nicely.

******

Once known for romance,

This place turns into a bloody dance;

In the tempo of disease

On an island no one leaves.

******

To add even more of a reason to check out my tale, I have included a short teaser below.

******

There is just a sliver of a moon tonight, barely enough to show the surf for what it is. Others like me stare out into the gently rippling waters, the hunger in our bellies driving us mad from the ravenous urge to seek out more prey. But one cannot eat what is not there.

Maybe . . .  just maybe if I wade out into the red surf one more time there will be a morsel overlooked from before.

Others beat me to it, but it is all for naught. The blood-stained waters are barren. We saw to that earlier. Santa Catalina. The old song beats a wild staccato in my head. No, this is no longer an island of romance. Leave me alone, damn it!

But it doesn't leave me alone. Over and over again the words assault me. How can there be romance without people? There can't. This is insanity. Everything is insanity now. 4,000 residents of this island are either now dead or like me. Maybe I'd be better off dead.

The old clay and metal pipes which wore away long ago allowed human sewage to flow into the city's groundwater and eventually into Avalon Bay. Over the years the bacteria deposits grew and gained entry into the bodies of those tending the beaches. Day after day we were assaulted without even knowing it.

The fecal bacteria inside my body tear at me, changing me more and more from what once was a human to whatever it is I am now. Chunks of flesh have fallen away from me, leaving boils and pockets of pus. My hair is rapidly becoming a thing of the past, joining with my departed flesh as it becomes litter on the beach, further desecrating it.

That Bobbie Kid, by Blaze McRob, is up on Amazon for your reading pleasure. This is a short story that is actually four short stories wrapped into one. The book cover, skillfully done by Terri DelCampo, explains the premise of the book: an evil kid up to mischief. But be forewarned that Bobbie is no normal kid. Bobbie's mischief involves mayhem, gore, death, and more. There is great power at work, a force that Bobbie can't understand, not at first, anyway.

Are you intrigued yet? I hope you are. This is one of my most evil tales yet.

Revenge comes in many forms.

That Bobbie kid, he's the one, who knows revenge, is oh, so fun!

SKULLY GREEN HAIR - ART BY TERRI DELCAMPO

From Terri:

I started doing "Skully" covers for my short story collections. I created them digitally and inserted the titles. They were fun to do, as simple as possible. I had half a dozen of them which are included here on Fine Art America. They've been sitting in a computer file because some of the collections were dismantled and the stories placed elsewhere. I'm adding to the collection with hand-drawn skullies as well as clown skullies and sugar skulls which I've been itching to draw since my coloring days.

While creating book covers and illustrations for writing projects, I began branching out into abstract art drawings and paintings. With environmental causes close to my heart, I create the abstract drawings on recycled cardboard (i.e., cereal, pasta, cracker boxes and packaging), and call it my 'Trash to Art' collection. I'm offering art inspired by my novels, poetry, articles, and Owl's Eye View dark fiction magazine, including character sketches, illustrations, and book cover art. I've done artwork for Blaze McRob's 'Paranormal Posse' stories on Patreon, and hope to include some of those here as well. There's also an illustrated memoir project looming in my near future, and the art will no doubt migrate to this venue. I got comfortable with colored pencil but am beginning to dabble in watercolor and acrylic. I love the wildlife in my yard and it's flowing into my art. I will upload work here at least weekly, so please follow me and check for new releases here on fineartamerica.com often.

ROMANTIC SHADOWS - BY TERRI DELCAMPO & BLAZE MCROB

Romantic Shadows, by Terri DelCampo and Blaze McRob, is a collection published by Blazing Owl Press on our wedding anniversary back in 2016. We eased up a bit on our usual horror fare and wrote some romance-themed short stories and poems. Yes, there are certainly elements of horror contained within, but that is not all we present in this tome. Lovers are reunited in magical ways, the Dance Of Love soothes yearning hearts, and much more.

UNHOLY RESOLUTIONS - BY BLAZE MCROB

Unholy Resolutions is one of many short stories I have written. This one takes place in New York City on New Year's Eve. I have included a short teaser below. I hope you enjoy my tale.

Blaze McRob

******

Selwah watches as he has always watched. Before humans inhabited this planet, he was a part of the order of things, destined to be close to the Creator, to serve his needs, to be exalted, but also to be under the thumb of God, never to reach the personification of grandeur that he aspired to.

Then one day it became even worse. God created humans. Not only were they given a special place in the heart of the Master, Jehovah decided they should be elevated above the Angels. These pathetic monkey-beings were supposedly made in the image of God.

Satan rebelled against this foolishness and was thrown from Heaven, banished in disgrace. Other Angels aligned with him suffered the same fate, but to them it did not matter. What good was it to merely parade around a Deity, suck up to him as it were, in exchange for . . . in exchange for what? To bask in the glory of a God with an ego the size of the universe?

A Novella By Blaze McRob

******

Here's a short teaser to whet your horror whistle.

******

Springtime. Fresh air carries the aroma of recently shoveled dirt, moistened by the recent rains, throughout the graveyard. Shovels, left behind in a hurry when the downpour started, lie on the ground next to the grave of the newest inhabitant.

Normality? Yes, but a sinister presence surveys the scene, not the least bit happy. Chunks of wet soil cling to his hair-covered, naked body. His nails are long and unkempt, and yet, what difference does it make? They are more effective for him to use when digging than any shovel fashioned by the hands of man. He lives beneath the surface, under the graves, in small cave-like areas formed from his own efforts, surrounded by the clothing removed from the local residents.

They won't say anything. Ha, ha! Dead people can't snitch on him.

The taste of rotting flesh rolls around on his tongue, reminding him of his hunger, his insatiable desire to feed. Heavy rain comes down, slapping a tune on the gravestones better than any drumstick. He delights in the awareness of the cleansing of his hair and skin.

Momentary pleasure; he is still pissed . . . pissed that God remanded him and his kind to suffer the indignities of their existence. Undead, yes. Immortal, yes. However, these things come at the high price of humiliation. Forced to feed on the dead like a common vulture is not to his liking.

Yet, this is the way it's always been. How can it change now? He is not stronger than God; he is merely a creature formed by His hand, to do His bidding.

The new carcass beckons to him, speaking to him, insisting that he feed. His hunger forces him to go and dig up the coffin. He tears the lid open and gazes at the body of a young woman struck down in her prime. She cannot possibly be any more than in her early twenties. Her clothing and hair style tell him this. Maybe he doesn't live amongst the rabble known as humans, but he has devoured enough of them to know the latest fads and fashions, and his highly enhanced sense of smell is able to decipher the age of a person by unfolding different layers of skin and reading them much like a botanist counts the rings of a tree.

This one smells peculiar to him, no odor of decay, of embalming fluids. Recent death. A mortician trying to save a little money. Shit, who knows? As long as she was remanded to the soil in a timely manner, all would be well.

But no; this is more, much more. Fool that he is, his hunger plays games with his mind. His desire to feed overcomes his usual stealth. Vigilance thrown out the window!

She is alive! In some sort of comatose state, but the girl is very much alive.

Now what?! He can't devour her. It is not allowed. Does he close the casket back up and re-bury her?

UNWILLING CHEDIPE - BY BLAZE MCROB

Unwilling Chedipe is a short story I believe you'll enjoy. I have included a short teaser for you below.

******

Not wanting to go to her husband's house, she must. Trapped within this curse the way she is, there is no alternative. Ten years ago, she died while giving birth. Her daughter survived, although there were some anxious moments for a while. The village doctor was nothing more than a mere charlatan with a medical degree. Skills? He had none and came to the house that night after a decent enough bout with some good wine.

She had no chance whatsoever.

Now she is to roam as a Chedipe, a witch-vampire. Some refer to her as a prostitute, but that title does not fit Sumi. She is no prostitute. All she wants is the opportunity for peace. Tired . . . she is so tired. Vengeance consumes her, but one does not rush into these things. The guiltless must not be harmed.

From Terri:

Linda's Hummingbird. My best friend Linda's favorite bird.

Terri DelCampo is a fabulous writer with a diabolical mind. In James Reborn each new revelation, each unveiling of another, darker level to which the human species is capable of sinking, brought a fresh shock of wonder at the genius behind the relentless evil unfolding on the page. So painful, so physically emotive; I had to set the book aside to breathe. Visceral and truly frightening, though I had to pause for sanity’s sake, I could not stop until the end. If you want a well-written book that will shake you to your core, this is it.

It is a combination of horror, dark fiction, paranormal, snark, and much more. You can get an idea of the shenanigans included in this tome by viewing the delightful cover art that Terri DelCampo did for it. I hold nothing back in this novel, so get in on the fun and read along. You'll be glad you did.

This novel is exclusive to my Patreon page. You'll find a welcome home there.

Here is a short snippet from the first chapter:

Happy reading, my friends.

Of course, Owl's Nest being Owl's Nest, it has its own take on Ides of March.

Read Ides Of March, by Terri DelCampo, for a truly different addition to Ides of March happenings. You'll be glad you did.

JUST WRITE

I posted this on my website a while back. It's still good advice I believe. In this post, I added what Terri DelCampo has to say about the subject. I hope you pick up a few pointers.

Do you want to be an author? Just write. Easy peasy. You don't have the time? Horseshit. We all have time. I worked at many jobs at the same time, not having a day off for nine years. I still wrote. I wanted to, so I did it. In twenty-something years, I wrote and had some seventy-five ghostwritten novels published.

There are many moments you can use as writing time. Get up early and write. Do you work at a desk job? Write at lunch while you're eating. Carry a little notebook or tape recorder and take notes. Put the notes together and you'll have a story. Write at the end of the day when the kids are asleep. I think you can see a pattern here.

Why am I writing this now? Simple. Some folks have been bombarding me about how they want to be a writer but can't find the time. Writing takes no time. If you want to get published and sell some books, that's a different matter. This quickie post is not about that. More to come about that later, as with other articles I have written about it in the past.

Prioritize. If you don't want to be a writer, then don't write. If you do: write.

If you're still reading my discourse, and you want to be a writer, you're in luck. I'm finished. Time for you to write. I want to see your books bandied about so I can tell the world about them.

Happy writing.

Blaze McRob

******

I love this scene from Finding Forrester. Excellent movie for aspiring writers, or even writers who need a motivation nudge.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLBEFvMkQCo This scene epitomizes how I feel about writing. If you're a writer, you write. Simple as that. I never go anywhere without paper and pen. Period. Don't even need a computer or typewriter. Pen and paper. Simple. In the house, in the car, on the beach, anywhere. From the time I was eleven. No matter what was going on in my life, I wrote. Because I am and always have been a writer.

Reasons that people give you for not writing are bullshit. I got up at 4:30 in the morning when my kids were very little and wrote 6 screenplays that way. Later when I worked for my husband's plumbing business and still had kids to raise, I stayed up until midnight and one in the morning. Wrote my first two novels that way. Then I worked full-time after my separation and divorce and wrote my third novel by not flopping on the sofa and watching TV when I got home from work.

After my car accident and being rendered disabled, I began self-publishing my magazine Owl's Eye View online, and last year I self-published my seven novels, three novellas, multiple short story collections, and Best Of collections from the magazine columns on Kindle (some 30 books). There's time. Carpe Diem, people. Or Carpe Noctem. Just don't carpe bullshit excuses. Just write!

Book description:

Wyoming private investigator Reese Golden has been hired by a distraught mother to find her missing 4-year-old daughter. This is no small task, considering that the child has been missing for weeks and has seemingly vanished into thin air.

Unfortunately, the police and the FBI haven't been able to come up with any leads. Reese, a former police detective, was shot on the job, which lead to her departure from the force. She is still rebuilding confidence in her abilities, and hesitates to take on the case, but she cannot in good conscience deny the woman's plea for help.

Reese uses her gut instincts to research and follow leads that point to the missing girl's whereabouts. Despite the threats against her life, she travels into the backcountry wilderness and the heights of mountain passes to try and locate the child.

Although Reese's attempts to bring the missing girl home to her family prove to be a major challenge, one that is fraught with danger and intrigue, she fights against the odds to stay on her course.

With a child's life at stake, she refuses to back down.

Not only does Reese discover the truth about herself, she discovers the lengths to which human nature will drive individuals who are desperate to have what they want, no matter the cost.

I bought and read this book, as I have with all of Cindy's books. It is a great modern-day detective book that takes place in Wyoming. Cindy bounces around with interesting and unexpected twists and turns. If you enjoy detective books with strong women, you'll love it! I give it 5 Stars.
