Terri DelCampo has finished her Camp NaNoWriMo book for April, 2019. She wrote a collection of stories talking about her experiences writing, some how-to hints of the craft, freedom of speech, her opinions on many things, how she first started writing, along with checklists for editing and more. It's called Broken Old Broad Talks Writing. I'll keep everyone posted on the release date. This is bound to be a most interesting book!

I have finished my Camp NaNoWriMo novel for April, 2019. I wrote 60,000 words with a week left. All I have to do now is flesh it out a bit more and do some of my own editing before it goes to my editor. I wrote a horror/adventure/love story, of a different kind. Hmm. It also has military/political and survivalist goodies included. Dang me anyway! I'll let you know when it's published. Terri DelCampo is almost finished with hers, as well. News coming soon for her book.

Terri DelCampo and I will both be busy in April. Camp NaNoWriMo demands our attention. I'm not 100% sure what Terri is going to write. I'll let you know as soon as she gives me the word. As for me, I have changed my mind as to what I want to write. Originally, I was going to write a fantasy with no bad words in it. I've decided I'm not up to keeping my language in check at the moment, so I will write a horror/adventure/love story, of a different kind. Hmm. Reading Horror Can Arm Us Against A Horrifying World

This is a well-written article by Ruthanna Emrys on National Public Radio. I totally agree with what she has to say, and it's not because I'm a horror author. I know the article is not completely directed at children, but horror is good for them in the same way it is for adults. Go back in time to the old fairy tales and you certainly don't see a lot of fluffy lambies. This spinning rock we're on is not a paradise. Tough lessons are learned along the way.

As the author says:

"Horror as a genre is built around one truth: that the world is full of fearful things. But the best horror tells us more. It tells us how to live with being afraid. It tells us how to distinguish real evil from harmless shadows. It tells us how to fight back. It tells us that we can fight the worst evils, whether or not we all survive them — and how to be worthy of having our tales told afterward."

CAMP NANOWRIMO

I will be returning to Camp NaNoWriMo next month. That means I'll be writing another novel of at least 50,000 words in April. I'll be writing The Enchanted Arch, a Fantasy novel with no bad words in it. Holy cow, Batman! This should be a challenge from potty-mouth me. I want something my younger children, grandchildren, and great grandson can read, or have read to them. I'll keep my readers posted when it's completed. By the way: older readers should enjoy it, as well.

I have participated in Women In Horror Month for a number of years now. This year, however, I will not be able to participate as I have in the past. Even though my computer is back in operation - for the most part, anyway - I'm having problems with being able to post on our Blazing Owl Press website, and my old Blaze McRob's Tales Of Horror website is no longer up and running due to problems with Google. Gotta love it. Add in the fact that Facebook virtually spreads nothing around and is a massive, non-productive time-suck and no one will be made aware of the posts, I will post what I can on Twitter, which plays nice with me. Gothic Revival, by Carson Buckingham, is the author's best work to date. One would think a 536 page novel would have some slow, drawn out sections, but not for Carson. She is a master at Gothic story-telling and knows how to keep the story moving.

I am particularly impressed by the fact there is no elaborate over-description involved. To me, that is boring. Give me some action; some psychological horror. Carson gives the reader all the description she/he needs without describing every useless tid-bit a reader doesn't want to know.

How does she do this? Through her skillful use of dialogue. Too many authors are totally without dialogue skills. Carson could write a non-fiction book on the subject. But then again, anyone who reads Gothic Revival will see what I'm talking about. Her dialogue is written the way people actually talk. Fancy the concept! She has hit upon a secret so simple that it eludes far too many authors.

Now I come to a part of Carson's writing that I really enjoy. Her sense of humor. What, you ask, humor in Gothic horror? You betcha. Once more, Master Carson Buckingham comes riding along on her trusty steed and delivers the right amount of humor at the perfect time. Superb!

Take dialogue unmatched by any author past or present, add in humor, suspense, romance, and a foreboding creepy feeling polishing it all off, and you have Carson Buckingham.

You will notice my review does not tell you the details of the story. Yikes! Why do that? Read the description and the free sample for that. I'm here to tell you about the author's skills. Of that, Carson has many. Besides, I wanted to blurt out some goodies, but that would have been a spoiler. Not my style.

Gothic Revival is a masterpiece!
