PARLIAMENT - BY TERRI DELCAMPO

https://books2read.com/u/38EAlr

Terri DelCampo has brought many tales written by her to Blazing Owl Press. I'm sure readers have noticed how many books we have here. We have 189 at the moment. Most of these are Terri's. I might catch up in time, but, for now, she is the champ. Parliament is one of those books, a frightening novel blending non-fiction with fiction. Sometimes that happens. This story is one of those. There is legend; there is lore; there is horror.

This is one of Terri's best works.

Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Title For A Perfect Horror Anthology!

By Robert C. Nelson on October 5, 2014

Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase

Adventures In Horrorland, by Suzie Lockhart and Bruce Lockhart 2nd was aptly published last year on Halloween. Read it again this year. The stories will blow you away!

My favorite story is The Monster In Me, penned by both Suzie and Bruce. I am amazed at the fact a duo of authors was able to write this. Great job on both their parts. I can't tell who wrote what. All I can say is that this is horror at its best.

Be Careful What You Wish For, by Suzie, is another great tale, one that has a super ending. Gotta love that!

Shadow Rain, by Bruce, is so great it's hard to describe. It is part horror, part fantasy, and a lot about love. In short, it is a literary gem.

These three stories are my favorites, but they are all great. To show you how much I love this book, I have an autographed paperback version signed by both Suzie and Bruce, and I also bought the Kindle ebook. I don't wish to be one of those people who reviews without buying a book. It's not my style.

I want to see more from these great authors!

LIVING GREEN: THE RINGWOOD MINES LANDFILL SITE

Painting by Vi Huntley-Franck

As I promised, I have done some digging and have come up with some facts about some of the Superfund sites that I will begin sharing. The first of these is the Ringwood Mines landfill site in the borough of Ringwood, New Jersey. This sits close to Mahwah in Passaic County. This is a 500-acre former iron mining site going back to the old colonial times. Ford Motor Company bought it in the 1960s and used it for waste disposal. Paint sludge was dumped down the old mine shafts, spreading into the water table and soil.

The EPA added it to its superfund priority list in 1984 demanding that a cleanup be conducted of the hazardous wastes. In 1994, it was deleted from the list, only to have it relisted later due to failed environmental remediation. Portions of the landfill site there had even been used for affordable housing for the Ramapough people in the 1970s. They dared to build there even though they knew the land was contaminated. All for the sake of the almighty dollar.

It was placed back on the Superfund priority list in 2006. By 2011, over 50,000 tons of industrial and hazardous waste was removed from the site. Millions of gallons of paint sludge had been dumped in the area. Even the Mafia got in on the act, fighting for the rights to conduct illegal dumping there.

Environmentalists worry that contaminants could get into groundwater supplies and pollute the waters feeding into Wanaque Reservoir, which supplies water to a fourth of the state.

On top of that, the rates of cancer are high in the area, and levels of lead and antimony are also well above the safe range.

For a detailed look at the past injustices done by Ford Motor Company and others at this Superfund site, go to https://actionnetwork.org/letters/ramapough-ringwood-environmental-justice-comment-campaign

This Superfund site is one of the worst ever. It's all about greed. The people who allowed this to happen are pure scum, through and through. Don't let this happen in your corner of the world, folks. The lives of you, your family, and your friends are all at stake. Keep alert and don't sell out to the evil-mongers.

LIVING GREEN: SUPERFUND SITES

Painting by Vi Huntley-Franck

I was digging up material for another article I was going to post today, but I stumbled across some troubling facts about another issue. A very serious one that needs to be addressed. That happens to be Superfund sites. these are, quite simply, any lands within the USA that are contaminated by various hazardous wastes,  In 1980, the 96th Congress established the Superfund program to clean them up.

Many of you are aware that these sites exist. Probably, some of you thought the necessary cleaning of these sites was either already completed or was being worked on. New Jersey, a state I called home for many years has more of these sites than any other state in the nation. It has 114 sites.

The owners of the worst of the worse sources of pollution, commonly had practices of dumping toxic chemicals on the ground, in rivers, in the ocean, out in the open. And more. Much more. Abandoned warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and processing plants utilized landfills and barrels left in the woods. I've run across many of them. Too many of them. They polluted the air, ground, and water.

I lived, for a while in Sussex County, New Jersey, which was one of the more pristine counties in the state. Or so I thought. The water supply of my hometown was half a mile away from one of these sites and was four miles away from another one. There were others within a short radius of my house. I believe you can see a pattern now. Add in other places, the smaller ones where barrels were hidden, and there is a very disturbing picture. Pristine, it was not.

The cleanup program for these sites appears to be running out of money to do the necessary work.  Trump wanted to cut even more funding for the program. Hopefully, that won't happen now that he's out of office, but I wouldn't bet my money on it. We need to be vigilant. Always. Especially in matters of life and death.

So, what happens if these sites are not cleaned up? Chemicals of every kind will attack, and, in many cases, kill humans and other animals.

1. PCBs can cause cancer and impaired fetal brain development.

2. Pesticides are carcinogenic. They are also associated with Parkinson's disease, miscarriage, nerve damage, and birth defects.

3. Dioxins can cause cancer, reproductive and developmental disorders, chloracne, skin rashes, and liver damage.

4. Chloroform is carcinogenic, has potential reproductive damage, can cause birth defects, dizziness, fatigue, and kidney damage.

5. Heavy metals such as arsenic, mercury, lead, aluminum, and cadmium can cause cancer, neurological disorders, Alzheimer's disease, foggy head, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, abnormal heart rhythm, and damage to blood vessels.

This is scary enough, but I have found many documents related to many of these sites around the state. For the most part, much has been hidden about past work and treatment of a lot of the chemical toxins. They are a matter of public record. Some of the records try to show that much has been accomplished. Reading the reports with a scientific and objective mind tells me otherwise. For example, one of the sites which could never get some 26,000 gallons of toxic waste completely removed is now a children's park. Agent Orange in the Passaic River endangers the lives of many thousands of people. Paint sludge and other toxic chemicals were dumped into abandoned mines. These files are just sitting around, waiting to be read. They're in official PDF form. All one has to do is read them with a discerning eye and know the bullshit they're trying to shoo away.

In many cases, the studies were conducted using skewed statistics that did not use objective logic. Ask the wrong questions, and the statistics will be skewed. It will take time for me to do this, but I aim to dig deep and get the right answers. This needs an investigative approach.

Some things are important and need to be brought to light. This is one of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Believe In Hell? You Will Now!

April 24, 2014

Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase

Chantal Noordeloos has come up with the perfect tale for those who do not believe in Hell. Her story is filled with plenty of gore and sadism, but it is the psychological horror that comes to the forefront. Take one truly evil human, Adolf - even her choice of a name for the antagonist in this romp through the worst of what an entity could possibly foist upon his fellow humans is perfect - add pride which exceeds no known limits, mix well, and wham! We are blessed with a story which will most likely have theologians shaking their heads, wagging fingers, and spouting venom when perhaps they might see that maybe, just maybe, Chantal has hit upon something . . . something which could possibly be.

Am I saying the Gospel According To Chantal Noordeloos is true? Of course not. This is a fiction tale of horror, and the author is not bandying about any new dogma. What she does do, as any great author does, is open the reader's mind to the possibility of truth within the story. By creating a storyline that appears to be reasonable, the reader is drawn into its intricate meanderings of what is to happen next to this man Adolf, a man who fears no one and is truly not repentant for his sins.

Does Adolf win? Does Satan win? Or does God win? Oh, me lads and lassies, that is not for me to say. Read this great story and get carried away within conceptual beliefs you may have never heard before. This book pushes the limits but in the most delightful of ways.

Are you tired of fluff? Do you wish to read a thinking person's story, yet one filled with a telling and hypnotic spell? Chantal Noordeloos has written what you are looking for. Embrace the words of a master at her craft.

Even Hell Has Standards: Pride, will not let you down!

LIVING GREEN: BLAZING OWL PRESS WILL PUBLISH ONLY EBOOKS

Painting by Vi Huntley-Franck

Terri DelCampo and I have decided that our Press will publish only eBooks. We were thinking of adding in print books, as well, but we decided against it. I know a lot of people will think we're wrong for going this way, that we'll be hurting ourselves with this kind of limiting factor, but our decision is based on the fact that we are green-minded. We live on a wooded lot and look outside every day and see trees, leaves, and more. We constantly talk about conservation of all kinds. It lessens our footprint on the planet.

A lot of people talk about dead tree books, and they're completely right. None of that for us. We are not demanding the industry does as we do. This is our way to give something back to the planet we live on. Climate change is already at work, and it's not for the best.

I know this is perhaps a small thing in many people's eyes. Others will say we're depriving ourselves of money. Maybe. Maybe not. We have just expanded the number of digital stores where our books are sold. We have other plans in the works. However, none of these plans call for destroying trees or polluting the ground with chemicals needed to transform the trees into paper. This is a highly technical era we live in. We aim to use the best of what science has to offer.

The reasons for our Press taking a stand for this position are pretty clear. Other Presses don't wish to do what we do. Their choice. Some readers like to read paperback books only. Once again, this is their choice. We have multiple outlets included for reading our books. We offer them for sale in many fine digital stores. We have them available to read in libraries. Definitely a lot of places to find them. All in eBook form.

Getting to some added perspective, I'm interjecting one of my cutting retorts to what a number of people are tossing around on the internet. What's this, you ask? Many people are saying that real books are only made from paper. Digital books are not real books in their opinion. Personally, I don't care what they believe. A book is a book is a book. Terri and I wish to be green. We have this thing called science that makes it possible to read books on a reader. I believe in science. I could be archaic and say that real books are only those painted on the walls of caves, but I'm not. The words in a book talk to me far more than smelling paper, or cave mold.

So, if you want to smell paper, that's your decision. Don't try to palm it off on Terri and me. Our books are real books.

Thank you for your time.

Book description:

Metamorphosis occurs every day as caterpillars become sweet fluttering butterflies, tadpoles become gorgeous frog princes and chameleons become one with the beauty of nature – but you won’t find any of that here.

The transformations you’re about to witness are unnatural, sometimes gruesome and deeply psychological. They will make you question reality and take your mind places it was never meant to go.
