Julian M. Coleman is my Woman In Horror today! I met Julian through my friend L. R. Shaw, and am I ever glad I did. Julian writes majestic tales in the mixed genres of  sci-fi/fantasy/metaphysical& visionary/ and, of course, horror. She is quite an energetic author with a lot more left to put on her horror platter.

From Julian M. Coleman

"I'm a Paranormal/Supernatural Award Winning author who grew up in Richmond, Virginia. As a child I suffered from night terrors. I'm sure you've heard of sleep paralysis which leaves you with the inability to move or speak. There are those of us who not only suffer the paralysis, but we see and hear horrible creatures. Most of the time, I had the good sense to keep my eyes closed. Yes, most of the time. Tell me, who wants to have nightmares about demons?

"As I grew older, I realized some demons may not be hideous. To this day, I believe true evil is seductive, even beautiful. Unfortunately there are bad things you can't outgrow. You learn to cope. I did that by writing about demons who will sip your soul while giving you a kiss.

"As an adult I also discovered that love transcends nightmares. I'm a dog lover and on several fortunate occasions my dogs entered my dream realm and saved me. The author in me couldn't resist, so in addition to writing about seductive demons, I've penned a tale about a mischievous pooch. If you want a chuckle then read about my canine diva. But...you may want to take a darker path with me. You may want to meet my demons. If that's the case, then I want you to be scared with me. Is that wrong? I don't just want to scare you, though. I want you to care about my characters. Because if you care about them, then you will be afraid for them too. Who knows, you could have nightmares about beautiful demons, too."

One great way to immerse yourself in Julian's writing is to read Cesar ( The Demon Lover's Chronicle Book 1 ). This is the first of three in a series, and is priced at FREE. Can't beat that, can you? What's more, this great book was the winner of the IAN 2016 OUTSTANDING Paranormal/Supernatural Book of the Year.

Do you need any more reason to discover another favorite author? I don't think so.

Happy reading, my friends.

WINNER of the IAN 2016 OUTSTANDING Paranormal/Supernatural BOOK of the YEAR. "César could join the ranks of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot, Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, and John Ajvide Lindqvist’s Let the Right One In" ~ Lee Gooden

“Like Anne Rice’s books, this dark paranormal romance novel is charged with eroticism. The writing is melodious, rhythmic, and lyrical.” This occult saga begins with the Thrust sisters. Rachel and Angelina are survivors. Their parents were leaders of a religious sect who denounced using dark power. Because of this, they were betrayed and brutally murdered. The sisters escaped. They, and their followers, settle in Virginia where they live peacefully. Until César. He's handsome, seductive and insidious. His carnal appetite severs the sisterly bond and turns Angelina into a creature. Can Rachel use the dark power to save her sister from his demonic charm?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read on Many Levels

I assume most readers would call Julian Coleman’s Cesar a horror novel, but in reality, it is much more than that. On one level, it’s a story about two sisters, Rachel and Angelina, who are dealing with a family tragedy from a decade ago. On another level, it’s a love story about Angelina and Allen, the young man who wants to marry her. On yet another level, it’s a coming of age story about Angelina trying to discover who she is and who she wants to be. In other words, there are universal themes at work here. But then you throw in the whole vampire thing, and suddenly you have a decidedly different take on all those plot lines. I’m not usually a fan of horror stories (nothing wrong with them, just not my thing), but Coleman quickly drew me into the world she so expertly crafted, with so many interesting and vibrant characters, people (well, most of them are people) whom I found myself curious about and even caring about. Coleman does an especially good job of portraying Angelina’s ongoing struggle to control the monster that lies simmering just below the surface of her life. I finished this book in record time, because I just had to know “what happens next.” The award-wining Coleman’s descriptions of people and places are colorful and, at times, even elegant, and her plotting is spot on. If you’re looking for a good horror story, then this is an easy selection. But it’s also an easy pick if you simply want a good read by someone who knows how to grab your attention from the get-go and never let up.

It's the late 1800s, and Sara's mother is a witch. It's the 21st century, and Sammy is trapped in prep school hell. The identical besties are doomed to immortality. It's their lethal rage that makes them efficient killers.

The author knocked it out of the ballpark with this installment. The world building and character building was excellent. This book was a complete page turner and I’m looking forward to the next installment. The main characters Sara and Sammy don’t disappoint. They both show determination and strength, and what a combination they make. The author has my psyche on overload in a good way. Ready to read more of Sara and Sammy’s world.

This is book 2 in "The Prophet's Mother" series and I did not find it necessary to have read book 1. I admit that the opening of the book is a bit unexpected, but I think the sex is there for a couple of reasons. #1 is that sex is a draw for a lot of people. It will get some readers when they open the cover of the book and check out the reading before buying. #2 is that sex is a natural part of life. It's not like this is completely off-the-wall explicit sex. I think there might even be a reason #3: it helps to show the character of our heroine. She feels a bit guilty about spending her last evening alive "bumping uglies" with her friend.

There was some confusion over which character's POV was being used, but then again the situation described was chaotic and confusing as well. I think this is one of the tools that an author has in his/her arsenal to convey the tone of the book. It definitely helped the story.

Fantasy/para-normal/sci-fi books require that you suspend belief. They rarely have basis in fact and they require that you follow the author's creative mind while constructing a make-believe world and society. The world shown in this book has things that exist beyond the reader's experience. Julian M. Coleman succeeds in making the unbelievable believable here, if only for the time that you are reading.

I highly recommend this book and would read more by this author!

I received an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
