Winnie Jean Howard is my Woman In Horror today! She is stepping up her game and getting ready to release more of the tales you love to read.

From some of Winnie's past posts:

"Winnie Jean Howard writes dark stories mixed with comedy for all ages. Her main focus is creating fast-paced, action-packed stories that read like video games. Winnie appreciates unconventional methods of publishing and released the first in The Courier series, Call For Obstruction, by tweeting it on Twitter."

Winnie Jean Howard writes dark comedy mixed with horror and science fiction. Her stories feature unique and memorable characters that are both outrageous and easy to relate to. She has watched countless horror movies since the age of six, and has become a bit addicted to any form of media that aims to scare. In her spare time, she drinks lots of wine and hangs out with her husband and three cunning beagles.

Winnie has loved horror since the age of four, when her grandmother let her watch the movie, The Crawling Hand. She was instantly addicted and watched every movie she could on Creature Features and Svengoolie on Chicago TV while she was growing up. Writing horror came natural, especially of the short variety.

After a few years in Catholic school and a nun who wielded a thick ruler, she grew into an obsession with good vs evil. She studies world religions and philosophy for the fun of it and her work is greatly influenced by these things."

She grew up in an average American middle-class home with her parents and two younger sisters. Today she lives near Denver, Colorado with her growing family.

At the age of twenty-two, Winnie joined the U.S. Air Force and began a career in computer technology that lasted twenty years. During eight years of military service, she spent a few years in Germany before moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1990. She settled in Colorado after leaving the service and doesn’t plan to live anywhere else until the wind carries her ashes from the mountains out of the state.

Choosing between GOOD and EVIL is harder than you might think.

My name is Barry, although it might as well be Loser. Satan owns my soul, and my demon boss, Margery, tortures me with her magical cigarettes every chance she gets. While I'm desperate for freedom, I'll do anything to stop her from opening the Gates of Hell...or any other crazy thing she has planned. My odds of saving mankind are uncertain, but I have to try.

Call for Obstruction is the introduction to The Courier series. It won the Textnovel Writing Contest for its unique characters and dark humor. It's fast-paced like a video game and hard to pause.

Read this book if you're a fan of Christopher Moore, Terry Pratchet, or Jim Butcher. You're sure to have a damned good time!

This book moves fast. Once you start it, it's hard to put down. The story features memorable, unique characters engaged in a battle between heaven and hell. The characters act like you'd expect them to act, speaking with natural dialogue and using language that is typical of their ages and professions. It feels like a very real story even though supernatural elements are present. It's a great book for somebody looking for a story that is different from the norm. It was set up well for a series and look forward to reading future installments.

When a deal with an angel is more dangerous than a deal with the devil.

Pete Sinclair’s charged with releasing an imprisoned fallen angel. Although he’s innocent, his warrant for damnation has him on the run. But the cowardly demon that possesses Pete is no help in evading the demonic mercenaries paid to chop off his head. His only hope for freedom lies in a deal with an angel apprentice. Brandishing the only weapon that weakens angels, Pete must rescue kidnapped nuns and capture the escaped fallen angel. If only he had a clue how to use a sword.

Fall for Freedom is a prequel to The Courier series that explains Barry's existence, and why Pete eventually becomes one of Barry's mentors.

Read this series for its unique characters, dark humor, and fast pace. You’ll enjoy The Courier if you're a fan of Christopher Moore, Terry Pratchet, or Jim Butcher. And you’re sure to have a damned good time!

Howard's story is funnier than dark humor has a right to be. Really enjoyed this prequel. Vivid, horrifying characters are written with such a droll hand that it's impossible to keep from chuckling even as horrific things keep happening.  Nicely paced and plotted. A short, fun read for anyone who doesn't want to have to decide between humor and horror.
